ENGLISH LITERATURE WITH THEATRE AND PERFORMANCE | BA(Hons)

About Program

About This Course

As an English Literature, Theatre and Performance student at Bangor, you will develop your individual interests in aspects of literature, drama and theatre. You will explore a wide range of practice including devising, community theatre, acting skills and solo and group performance. This work is underpinned by the critical study of literature, and drama from a range of historical periods from the medieval to the contemporary. Modules combine the creative and performative with a critical grounding in major theatre.

As you progress, you can select modules that help you to maintain a wide-ranging approach, or you can specialise in specific subjects or literary forms. Either way, modules options in English Literature and Theatre and Performance are designed to complement each other, honing your skills in performance, writing, critical thinking, theorising, research analysis, and debate.

Why choose Bangor for this course?

  • Small group teaching and lectures and one-to-one supervision.
  • You will benefit from excellent facilities and from Bangor’s close links with local and national theatre companies, including with Pontio, the University’s new £40 million Arts Centre.
  • Close links with vibrant student societies – including student newspapers, Film Society, and drama societies.

Course Content

Blending literary analysis with production, performing, writing, and directing, our English Literature with Theatre and Performance degree places a strong emphasis on small-group teaching. Your classes include a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops and viewing sessions. These will have a practical and theoretical focus. Assessment on your modules varies from one module to another, and often combines a mixture of examinations, performance and coursework assignments.

In addition to what takes place in the classroom, there are lots of exciting opportunities for you to boost your skills and knowledge. We regularly run theatre trips, film showings, gallery visits, and each month there is the chance to hear visiting creative writers and academic speakers.
