COURSE OVERVIEW
Graduates from a technical, engineering and science background have the potential to reach the pinnacle of management and leadership in industry.
Through external consultation with business and industry, this MSc in Engineering Leadership and Management (ELM) has been designed to equip you with the vital graduate skills needed to succeed in an engineering management or leadership role, exploring leadership styles, processes, and the ever-increasing focus on soft skills.
"The course offers a great transition to management and leadership for engineering students with the objective of kick-starting their careers through a greater awareness of how their behaviour impacts on performance, plus how to apply their engineering know-how to real world problems and projects. The skills covered on the course are the direct result of the needs of industry as set out by the members of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB)."
- Dean Cartwright, Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board, Tata Steel
This programme has been developed jointly by the School of Management and the Department of Engineering. Students on the programme will benefit from being taught by both Management and Engineering academics, and will be able to take advantage of the facilities within both faculties.
WHY ENGINEERING LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT AT SWANSEA?
As a student on the Master’s course in Engineering Leadership and Management, you will gain and build upon the key skills and knowledge required for a management and/or leadership role in the engineering sector, and learn how to navigate the turbulent environment in today's business world through the eyes of a technical specialist.
Working alongside the School of Management and supported by an industry board made up of leaders from a variety of backgrounds and organisations, we ensure we keep our subject matter relevant and up to date. Our partnership with industry means that students are provided with real strategic challenges and scenarios to work on, as well as solid recommendations and solutions to strengthen their learning, understanding and problem-solving ability.
Watch this webinar with Dr Vasileios Samaras, Senior Lecturer at Swansea University, Ian Hobson, Senior Lecturer and former Maufacturing Director at Tata Steel and Sam, a graduate of our MSc Engineering Leadership and Management, to find out more about the course and how it can help boost your career path.
ENGINEERING LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of the Engineering Leadership and Management MSc at Swansea are strongly positioned for rewarding management opportunities in engineering and also other sectors.
"Students completing the course will get a head start on conventional graduates and we have seen this with several that have started in Tata getting ahead of the curve with career progression, gaining additional responsibility, and promotion ahead of their peers."
- Dean Cartwright, Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board, Tata Steel
"We kept in touch with some of our students into the early years of their careers to find out about their experiences and to get some insight into how they approach the challenges they face. Without exception, they all draw on the skills they developed on the ELM, particularly in team environments. Additionally, we have sought feedback from employers on how the ELM students perform when compared to their peers. The feedback is extremely positive, and the graduates post-ELM are described as being ahead of the curve in their career development and secure senior positions ahead of the remainder of the peer group."
- Dr Vasilios Samaras

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
