About Program

COURSE OVERVIEW

The world of business is full of opportunities. So where do you start? This practical course will help you find your calling in international business with modules ranging from consultancy to enterprise.

BA (Hons) Business Management includes everything you could want from a business degree, from expertise in our research areas of sustainability, strategy, and enterprise to events like our leadership series of guest lectures.

Applied business skills

You’ll learn the theory behind what makes a successful business. We focus heavily on giving you the practical knowledge you’ll need for your career – whether that’s starting your own business or working your way up in a big corporation.

By the end of this course, you should be able to think strategically. You should have an entrepreneurial mindset. And you should have the skills to be a successful manager anywhere in the world.

The new sustainable business

Profits aren’t the only thing driving businesses. We believe you need to conduct business in a sustainable and ethical way to be an effective manager. Our values underpin everything we do here at Manchester Met.

In fact, you’ll live and breathe sustainability while you’re here, studying in the environmentally-friendly business school. You’ll also get to work alongside innovative start-ups at Manchester Met-based Innospace, were we support people with great business ideas and the commitment to turn them into reality.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Triple accredited – our business school holds the globally recognised trio of accreditations from EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA, placing us among the best business schools in the world.
  • Experience the world – with our links to other accredited business schools across the world, you have plenty of options for a year studying abroad at another renowned institution.

  • Get a head start – with the optional placement year, you’ll have real experience before you even graduate – some students even go on to work at their placement provider after university.

  • Regular industry events – meet entrepreneurs and attend business events at our start-up hub Innospace, hear from industry leaders in guest lectures, take part in the Young Enterprise competition, and join the Business and Management Society.

  • Enhance your employability – through activities including internships, volunteering or learning a new language, our award-winning ‘Rise at Manchester Met’ programme encourages you to learn career-ready skills beyond the focus of your course and potentially gain extra academic credits towards your degree.
  • Business expertise – our researchers also teach on our courses, so you’ll have the latest insight from the people informing policy and consulting with organisations.

  • A city of opportunity – Manchester is a real hub for business, with lots of graduate opportunities. You’ll find exciting roles in small agencies and large firms, and everything in between.

  • Supporting you in person and online – student support initiatives including drop-in sessions, lecture recordings and dedicated support, both on and offline.

COURSE INFORMATION

As you progress through the course, you can start to specialise in an area of business that interests you. Finance, HR, marketing, technology, sustainability – you won’t be short of options.

After your second year you can choose to progress to your final year or take an optional year out going on placement or studying abroad. Both are great options to get more experience. We’ll help you arrange everything and give you all the support you’ll need.

In your final year, you’ll complete a major project. This could be consulting for a real business (recently Manchester City FC, for example), offering your skills to a charity, or working with course-mates to set up a business. All three could lead to job opportunities – one recent graduate who was the sales director of her young enterprise business is now a regional sales manager at Ribena Lucozade.
