About Program

On our BA (Hons) History course we’ll give you the in-depth knowledge and skills you need to become a historian.

During this course you’ll get to explore modern British, Irish and world history. You’ll acquire a deep historical knowledge and understanding of different periods of history in various parts of the world, exploring cultural, diplomatic, political, public and social angles.

We’ll give the skills you need to become a professional historian. You’ll get to discover and analyse evidence and put forward your own arguments and interpretations.

Some modules will cover the broad sweep of history, while others are specifically focused on particular historic events and key figures. Other modules will give you an insight into careers in museums and heritage.

Why study with us

  • History courses at the University of Central Lancashire are ranked 3rd in the North West for student satisfaction (CUG, 2022).
  • You’ll get to take on the Community History Project, which involves working on a live project brief with a real client.
  • You’ll also have the chance to get involved in international volunteering projects through the University’s Centre for Volunteering and Community Leadership (CVCL), with some modules accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

What you'll do

  • We’re focused on giving you employable skills - our Community History Project and work placements combine independent research, critical thinking and project management.
  • There are three strands to this degree: British and Irish History; World History; and Heritage. You can tailor your studies around the subjects you’re particularly interested in.
  • You can support the international dimension of your History degree by learning a language or travelling abroad, with awards and bursaries available through the University’s Worldwise learning Centre.
