This work-based learning programme combines courses in health, social care and mental health and is aimed at meeting the skills required by the growing health and social care market.

The course aims to equip you if you are working, or intending to work in health and social care with relevant knowledge and skills, to address your continuing professional development needs and bridge the gap between theory and practice.

During the course, you’ll undertake two practice placement modules, enabling you to develop a range of work-based skills.

This programme can lead to a wide variety of other courses and studies, including Social Work, Community and Social Care, Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Operating Department Practice and Sports Therapy.

Why study with us

  • Simulated learning experience is provided for health students within contemporary skills laboratories including a community flat and counselling and consultation rooms.
  • FdA Health and Social Care is ranked 1st in the North West with 87% of students satisfied with the learning resources (National Student Survey 2020).
  • There’s opportunity for international travel and work experience, including volunteering in countries such as Zambia and Kenya.

What you'll do

  • Placement opportunities allow you to apply your skills and knowledge in an area of practice that interests you, providing a firm basis for your future career.

Course delivery

Following the pandemic, we have found that some courses benefit from a blended learning and teaching approach. Therefore, the majority of your teaching will be face-to-face on campus aside from a small amount of online teaching where we have learnt it works best.

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of our published course information. However, our programmes are subject to ongoing review and development. Changing circumstances may cause alteration to, or the cancellation of, courses. Changes may be necessary to comply with the requirements of accrediting bodies or revisions to subject benchmarks statements. As well as to keep courses updated and contemporary, or as a result of student feedback. We reserve the right to make variations if we consider such action to be necessary or in the best interests of students.

Future careers

Our FdA Health and Social Care offers a clear pathway of opportunities and in 2019, 97% of the course went on to employment or further studies.

You’ll be able to use your skills in health and social care to seek employment within the youth justice systems, NHS trusts, private hospitals, children’s services, social services, family centres, as well as children’s homes.

Past students have secured jobs as a direct result of their placement performance. Recently, students have been placed in mental health and hospice care environments. Others have gone on to work with SEN children in schools, roles with organisations such as the Samaritans, and work with the homeless.
