Want to study Manufacturing Engineering but don't have the formal qualifications you need? Study our Foundation Entry programme. You'll learn the academic, practical and study skills needed to succeed on a Mechanical Engineering degree.
Some engineering courses focus on traditional academic sub-disciplines. Our BEng Manufacturing Engineering teaches the engineering capabilities that graduates need.
Our degree is based on mechanical engineering fundamentals such as mechanics, materials, CAD/CAE/CAM and operations management. This is combined with specialist modules in Automated Production and Advanced Manufacturing. You’ll also develop skills in user needs and business plan development.
You will get the skills and expertise required to design, analyse and optimise manufacturing systems. You’ll also develop project work which presents an opportunity to integrate learning across the course.
Why study with us
- Enjoy our Additive Manufacturing Lab, Advanced Digital Manufacturing Technology research centre and the Jost Institute for Tribotechnology.
- Study at the heart of one of the most intense engineering and manufacturing regions in the UK. Major employers include BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Aircelle, Kaman, Senior, RLC and Magellan.
- Learn in our new £35m Engineering Innovation Centre. Access the latest high-quality equipment and facilities available.
What you'll do
- Join different engineering clubs, learn new skills, and enter international competitions. Bond with staff and fellow students.
- Full-time students can take an optional 48-week sandwich placement in industry. This will compliment your learning and enhance employability.
- Our Engineering Innovation Centre enables you to work on real-world projects with commercial partners in state-of-the-art facilities.

Course delivery
Following the pandemic, we have found that some courses benefit from a blended learning and teaching approach. Therefore, the majority of your teaching will be face-to-face on campus aside from a small amount of online teaching where we have learnt it works best.
Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of our published course information. However, our programmes are subject to ongoing review and development. Changing circumstances may cause alteration to, or the cancellation of, courses. Changes may be necessary to comply with the requirements of accrediting bodies or revisions to subject benchmarks statements. As well as to keep courses updated and contemporary, or as a result of student feedback. We reserve the right to make variations if we consider such action to be necessary or in the best interests of students.
Industry links
Courses are informed by Industry Steering Groups with representatives from many areas. This includes regional SME and sector groups through to global PLCs. This provides a powerful insight into the skills they need to help them innovate.
You’ll also enjoy the facilities and expertise of our Jost Institute for Tribotechnology and Advanced Digital Manufacturing Technology (ADMT) Research Centre. They focus on data-driven, digital-integrated manufacturing solutions. This will drive the autonomous factories of the future.

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
