About Program

This course gives you the perfect opportunity to strengthen your academic credentials in preparation for a career in Clinical Psychology and/or other professions in the area of mental health. It has been designed to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in core theoretical, methodological, and empirical areas of Clinical Psychology.

You’ll develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed for progression to the Doctor of Clinical Psychology (DClinPsych) courses which you’ll need to undertake if you aspire to take on a leading role in Clinical Psychology in the NHS, private practice or other related fields.

Course delivery

Following the pandemic, we have found that some courses benefit from a blended learning and teaching approach. Therefore, the majority of your teaching will be face-to-face on campus aside from a small amount of online teaching where we have learnt it works best.

Academic expertise

Many of our staff are practising Clinical Psychologists and work or have worked within the NHS, and we also have links with clinicians in private practice. This ensures that graduates from our course are equipped with the skills that employers need.

This unique mix of professionals is reflected in the content of the course, where you’ll learn about the differences and similarities involved in working clinically within the NHS and in private practice.

The course content, teaching and assessments have been developed by the course team working closely with clinical psychologists, practitioners, employers, current and recent trainees in the area, and those with the desire to work within the field. The result is an exciting and vibrant course that covers all the essential subject material you need to move into the exciting field of Clinical Psychology.

Future careers

Our programme strengthens your academic credentials in preparation for a career in Clinical Psychology (for example through Assistant Psychologist posts within the NHS and further competitive doctoral training in Clinical Psychology). You’ll also strengthen your CV in preparation for other professions in the areas of Clinical Psychology, mental health, academia, or research.

In the year immediately after completing our course, past students have gone on to secure positions as Assistant Clinical Psychologists in a range of services (eg specialist learning disabilities teams within the NHS, forensic services, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners and Psychology Healthcare Assistants in the NHS, Mental Wellbeing Practitioners in the private sector).
