Maintenance Engineering | MSc

About Program

Our MSc Maintenance Engineering course is perfect for engineers who have recently graduated and those with experience who are looking to extend their knowledge or update their qualifications with a view to career advancement.

Maintenance strategies are central to the smooth operation of complex industrial processes in a wide range of industries, including the automotive, pharmaceutical, nuclear, petrochemical and aerospace industries.

The planning and implementation of professional maintenance strategies can reduce costly breakdowns which may interrupt production. They contribute to sustainable engineering practice which benefits the environment as well as driving down costs and improving safety.

This course will develop your knowledge of maintenance engineering, tribology, maintenance of complex systems and systems integration. We’ll cover both the technical and management aspects of maintenance engineering, preparing you for a range of roles associated with maintenance engineering on mechanical plants, such as asset management, plant maintenance and preventative maintenance.

Why study with us

  • This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
  • You’ll benefit from our new £35 million Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC), an integrated space for teaching and research with direct links to industry, enabling you to work on live, real-world projects with commercial partners in state-of-the-art facilities.
  • We’re located within one of the most intense engineering and manufacturing areas of the UK.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll have the chance to undertake an industry placement to enhance your skills, apply the knowledge you’ve developed on the course, and boost your career prospects.
  • You’ll benefit from outstanding facilities in tribology, surface engineering and intelligent condition monitoring, with a wide range of laboratory and industrial-scale equipment and computer modelling facilities.
  • The course is designed to equip and enable you to work as a graduate engineer through the skilled application of your knowledge of engineering. This may be in the fields of design, analysis, development, manufacture, application, sales and maintenance of high technology products, systems, and services.
