Combining theory of teaching with practical activities, this wide-ranging degree teaches you lab-based skills that develop your understanding of human performance while also focusing on sport psychology, in areas such as behaviour and motivation. You will also explore the importance of physical activity interventions during childhood and across the lifespan.
Other areas covered by the course include exercise practice; sport pedagogy; physiology and health; physical activity and social inclusion; physical activity and health interventions; and professional development. Your future employability is at the heart of the course with opportunities for relevant work experience embedded into the course and there is also the option to take a fee-free sandwich-year placement (see below).

I have been lecturing and researching in the area of physical activity and health since 2010 and enjoy adopting an innovative approach to teaching.
Following my PhD completion I worked for the UK's largest provider of childhood obesity programmes - MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition.... Do it!), developing community based healthy lifestyle initiatives in association with Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College London.

Recent graduates have pursued careers as teachers in physical education or primary education (after completing the PGCE year). They have also pursued sport development and coaching roles within local councils; the health and fitness sector; roles within the NHS; and graduate-level schemes such as the police degree-holder entry route.
Students on this course have also gone on to study at postgraduate level with us. We offer PGCE Secondary Physical Education or Primary Education as well as MSc Clinical Exercise Physiology; MSc Physical Activity, Nutrition and Behaviour Change; MA Sport and Physical Activity; or MA Physical Education and Sport.
