Course Overview
The MSc course in Facilities Management (FM) allows you to gain theoretical and practical knowledge about the discipline of FM. Our dedicated team of staff will provide you with practical training on the application of related software for the management of hard and soft FM services.
The research seminar that is organised by the department enables you to apply statistical software and independently conduct research in an area of interest. In addition to preparing you to work in diverse FM sectors, you are also taught issues about the control of facilities – associated infections in healthcare establishments.
With such level of knowledge, training and support, you are expected to graduate with employability skills that would enable you to gain employment in companies in the UK and abroad.

Clifford Okeh - Course Leader
BSc, MSc, DIC MCIOB, MCABE C. Build E. MIET MSET FHEA.
Clifford has over 20 years’ experience working in industry and higher education. He has worked with leading construction company’s such as Balfour Beatty Major Civil Engineering Limited UK. He is research active in Fibre Reinforced Concrete Structures (Experimentation and Numerical Modelling) and has a wide range of teaching expertise in civil engineering and construction technology, construction management and structural engineering.
Dr Paul Watson - Academic Lead for Construction and Civil engineering
BSc, PhD
Paul has more than 25 years’ experience of working in higher education. He started his career as an optimisation process engineer with Thames Water after graduating from the University of London in 1987 (with an upper second in Geological Engineering), before moving back into academia in 1988 studying for a PhD (in Geotextile Filters) at Queen Mary, London. Prior to the completion of his PhD, he joined Kingston University in 1992 as a junior academic in civil engineering, successfully gaining his doctorate in 1995.

Learning and assessment
In developing the MSc in Facilities Management programme, we have taken into consideration the diversity of the student learning needs and experiences. This also includes the multidisciplinary nature of Facilities Management that appears to capture wide range of subjects.
The teaching and learning strategies have been structured in such a way that it meets the diverse needs of our international group of students. To satisfy the needs of the different learning outcomes, different approaches i.e. formal lectures, workshops, IT lab sessions, group and individual presentations are adopted. You are also encouraged to engage in independent study. Most of the course is delivered by university staff but, where appropriate, experts in their own field are brought in as guest lecturers to speak with authority from their industry experience and expertise.
As with all university education you are responsible for your own learning; the lectures are merely the starting point and you will have to undertake a substantial amount of study to succeed.
The MSc Facilities Management programme uses several different assessment techniques that will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of concepts and issues covered. These may be broadly categorised as ‘coursework’, which may be in the form of individual or group assignments, briefing documents, model design, practical problem-solving exercises and presentations.
It should be emphasised that the purpose of assessment is to not only grade you, and provide information to facilitate management of the course, but also to provide feedback to you. You should keep all the returned assessment work in a file as you may have to submit this at the end of the year for the external examiners to assess.
Individual module leaders will distribute information on the methods of assessment used, and their weighting, at the start of each module.
