Foundation Entry allows you to build your skills and progress onto our degree in English and Education. It’s an ideal route for mature students, or for those just short of standard entry requirements.
Your modules will be taught by subject specialists, and you will look at issues that affect learners, such as ethnicity, deprivation, gender, disability and learning difficulties.
You will study English Language and Linguistics, the principal literary forms of poetry, fiction and drama. You will engage in creative writing and study contemporary writing forms such as the short story and script.

Future careers in Education and English
Studying on this Foundation course leads directly into our BA (Hons) Education and English course. This in turn opens the door to professional career in education or other opportunities including journalism, publishing, and advertising.
Throughout the Foundation year you’ll be supported by our academic advisers and the University’s Careers service. Following your progression onto the BA Education and English you could decide to go on towards teacher training, or further postgraduate study.
Some of our recent graduates have gone into professions including teaching, careers advice and guidance roles, community support, social work, learning mentors, the civil service, librarians, researchers and pastoral roles in education.
When you complete the Foundation course you have direct access to our BA and on graduation from this course you’ll leave us with the subject knowledge, skills and understanding that will make you a valuable asset to employers within and beyond the field of education.
