Education Studies (Foundation Entry) | BA(Hons)

About Program

Keen to pursue an interest in education? Our Education Studies Foundation Entry programme delves into the systems and experiences from early years to lifelong learning.

Our programme is tailored for those who aspire to go on to teach, or to develop their existing practice.

You’ll explore the application of learning theories, the curriculum, the role of teachers and the shared nature of learning between schools, families and professionals.

We focus on inclusion for diverse learners from non-traditional backgrounds. Covering race and ethnicity, poverty and deprivation, gender, disability and learning difficulties, sexuality, mental health, as well as those who are subject to abuse or bullying.

Why study with us

  • There are work placement opportunities within an educational setting at each stage of your degree.
  • If you’ve a prior qualification, you can join the course in Year 2 or 3, depending on your experience.
  • We keep your employment needs in mind, so study can usually take place with a one-day-release from your workplace.

What you'll do

  • Some of our graduates have gained Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) scholarships onto master’s degrees and doctorate level studies.
  • You’ll learn how to conduct research, develop presentations, collaborate in teams and develop critical approaches to policy and literature.
  • Tailor your dissertation study to particular professional needs or personal interests.

Course delivery

Following the pandemic, we have found that some courses benefit from a blended learning and teaching approach. Therefore, the majority of your teaching will be face-to-face on campus aside from a small amount of online teaching where we have learnt it works best.

Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of our published course information. However, our programmes are subject to ongoing review and development. Changing circumstances may cause alteration to, or the cancellation of, courses. Changes may be necessary to comply with the requirements of accrediting bodies or revisions to subject benchmarks statements. As well as to keep courses updated and contemporary, or as a result of student feedback. We reserve the right to make variations if we consider such action to be necessary or in the best interests of students.

Future careers

Education Studies Foundation Entry can lead to different careers in education, but the majority of our graduates progress to teaching, gaining places on primary PGCE courses or joining the Schools Direct programme.

Our graduates have also gone on to secure advice and guidance roles, community support, social work roles, learning mentors or other pastoral roles in educational contexts.
