On this course you’ll get to study some of the greatest works by the giants of English Literature – from Shakespeare to Dickens. Through our optional modules you’ll explore and enjoy the finest examples of literary craft in various genres from all over the world – everything from American literature to gothic, graphic novels, drama, theatre, children’s literature and fairy tales.
You’ll take an in-depth look at the relationship between literature, culture and society, and how writers through the ages have sought to interpret and represent the world around them.
As well as enjoying and critiquing other writers’ works, you’ll also get to unleash your creative side. During this course we’ll help you to grow into an accomplished writer who’s able to communicate with clarity, precision and flair.

What you'll do
- Gain valuable work experience with real clients through our Live Literature Room project - previous students have organised creative writing events, literary festivals and a major ‘Comicon’ event.

Our graduates have gone on to enjoy successful careers in fields such as journalism, the cultural and creative industries, advertising, publishing, travel and tourism, and teaching.
We currently have alumni working for major national media outlets including The Guardian, The Independent and the BBC. Others are working in digital media and government advisory roles.
If you’re interested in a career in teaching and education, we have links with a network of regional schools. You could go on to gain a PGCE in primary or secondary education, or certificates in TESOL.
There are also opportunities for further study at master’s and PhD level.
