About Program

Our Fine Art course offers a broad range of experience in contemporary art practice. So you can explore your ideas through studio work in your own workspace.

Our Fine Art course trains you to work as creative practitioners. As well as offering many transferable skills, which can you can utilise in the creative industries and beyond. We’ll encourage you to create art that is experimental and innovative.

You’ll get the chance to experiment with traditional or new media. Including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, animation, video, sound, performance, drawing and illustration.

Our studios are large, open-plan workspaces and you’ll be given your own space within them and free your creativity. You’ll also have access to other specialist facilities. Including a digital media suite, drawing studio and wood, metal and plaster workshops. We’ll help you to develop your artistic skills to a professional level.

What you’ll do

  • All the basic materials you need are free (paper, canvas, wood, metal, clay, plaster and mod rock). You’ll receive a budget each year to spend on materials.
  • The quality of workshops and the technical assistance you’ll receive is outstanding.
  • All students in Fine Art have the opportunity to develop projects in our onsite contemporary art gallery Hanover Project. As well to travel on research visits to Berlin, London and Singapore.

Future careers in Fine Art

This course will train you to work as a creative practitioner. Our graduates pursue careers as artists in the UK and abroad.

These include arts residencies, community arts, animation, graphic design, museums and galleries. As well as web design, arts education, photography, professional arts organisations, theatre set design, illustration, curatorship, film post-production and prop making.

Other graduates move into the worlds of TV and radio, journalism, publishing and other creative fields.

Graduates from our BA Fine Art courses have exhibited their work internationally in major exhibitions. And in commercial, independent and public galleries in London, Germany, Japan and the United States. Former students include the award-winning and internationally renowned land artist Andy Goldsworthy.

Fine Art Film Maker Paul Bratt graduated in 2008. His highly individualistic films and animations, which feature handmade puppets and marionettes, continue to attract critical acclaim. Paul’s work was selected to feature in the prestigious 2008 New Contemporaries exhibition at Rochelle School in London.

Sarah Watson graduated from UCLan in 2010. Her second-year project ‘Invisible Car’ featured a used Skoda that disappeared against the backdrop of the Fine Art studios. Sarah’s car generated huge interest and was featured in the international news networks.
