The BA (Hons), HND, and HNC in Law and Practice course provide students with an opportunity to study concepts of Law with a blend of practice elements. Helping students to develop highly valued transferable legal skills which could significantly enhance their analytical, evaluative, reasoning, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
The Law and Practice course will allow you the opportunity to attend a course that is designed with the SQE in mind. Designed to cover the different aspects of the SQE assessment, this course can help you better understand the functioning legal knowledge (FLK) required, in addition to the practical assessments that would form the basis of problem-solving skills that are needed for SQE2.

This course aims to provide a thorough understanding of the practice of law in the modern world.
Focusing strongly on the practical aspect of civil and criminal law, this degree covers a wide variety of topics, ranging from Contracts, Torts, Land Law, Family Law to Employment Law and EU Law. You would also be presented with opportunities to act for clients in criminal, civil and employment forums2. You should develop mooting, advocacy and presentation skills thereby building a solid foundation to become a competent and knowledgeable practitioner of law.

The first year of the degree is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the English Legal System and Public Law. You will be introduced to the specifics of establishing Contractual and Tortious Liabilities. In the Advocacy Skills module, the learners will be provided an opportunity to delve into the practical skills required for the profession. Throughout the year, you'll develop skills in decision making and research methods, providing you with a solid foundation for further exploration in years two and three. Students who successfully complete year one are eligible for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Law and Practice.
How you'll learn
There are two main taught options for this course. It is available as a full-time three-year programme or an optional four-year sandwich course where you undertake a work placement or study year in a related field. Alternatively, part-time study is also available.
Our teaching methods are varied, offering a number of teaching styles to suit the needs of all our students, so in addition to lectures, we also utilise a blended learning approach, including online aspects, workshops and group work. Progression through the modules develops knowledge and skills, including communication (written and oral), study skills, research methods, project management, presentation and career development. We will also encourage you to consider your employability and/or entrepreneurial development.
Unlike traditional institutions, there are no end-of-year exams. Instead, learning is assessed through coursework, oral presentations and phase tests, which are more reflective of our learning model.
This course can be offered on a part-time basis. Whilst we would like to give you all the information about our part-time offering here, it is tailored for each course each year depending on the number of part-time applicants. Therefore, the part-time teaching arrangements vary. Request further information about part-time study.
Teaching contact hours
The number of full-time contact hours may vary from module to module, however, on average, it is likely to be around 20 contact hours per week. Additionally, you will be expected to undertake significant self-directed study of approximately 30 hours each week, depending on the demands of individual modules.
The contact hours may be made up of a combination of face-to-face teaching, individual and group tutorials, and online classes and tutorials.
As an innovative and enterprising institution, the university may seek to utilise emerging technologies within the student experience. For all courses (whether on-campus, blended, or distance learning), the university may deliver certain contact hours and assessments via online technologies and methods.

Assessment
The learning outcomes of modules, assignments and coursework will be clearly stated. Your work will be marked according to how well you achieve these learning outcomes and your final feedback will refer to each outcome, as well as providing an overall percentage grade.
