What you’ll study

The Diploma of Language Studies is a flexible pathway or standalone course that allows you to undertake additional language studies independently of a full course.

You will complete the diploma in one of three ways by undertaking:

  • a language major
  • a language minor with additional language elective units taken from any of the language subject areas
  • language elective units only taken from any of the language subject areas.

Impact on duration

  • If you choose to only complete cultural units of study or electives, then the course can be completed in one year full-time.
  • If you choose to complete an in-sequence language major, due to the availability of these units, it will take at least 2 years to compete.

Why study with us?

  • You can choose from 15 languages offered by the School of Languages and Cultures, ranked 1st for modern languages in NSW.
  • Graduates who can speak a second language and demonstrate a high level of cultural competence are especially sought-after.
  • Our graduates are ranked 1st in Australia and 4th in the world for employability by the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022.
  • The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is ranked 23rd in the world in the 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
