Sport Management - i2i International Soccer Academy | BSc (Hons)

About Program

Our Sport Management programme is designed to enable you to appreciate and evaluate sport, as a global business, from an informed and inquisitive managerial viewpoint.

At every level of study, you will develop vocationally relevant experience and skills; such as event management, strategic and economic planning, social media management, and sport marketing. You will also develop transferable skills in areas such as; communication, negotiation, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving.

Programme modules respond to the distinctive needs of international sports organisations. Therefore, the course has been designed from the outset as a sports management degree, rather than a business degree with a few sports modules attached. Learning in this sport-rich environment provides numerous opportunities for you to engage in CPD, volunteering, access a variety of sports networks, and undertake a placement with a local sports organisation.

Due to our unique learning and teaching experience, you will graduate from our degree with a rounded knowledge of specific and transferable management skills, which are desirable to a variety of graduate-level employers.

We appreciate the demands of combining study and soccer development so, where possible, we ensure our student-athletes benefit from maximised time in both the classroom and on the pitch. Timetabling is done in such a manner that means academic study will typically be taught in the morning with soccer activities taking place in the afternoon.

Did you know: over 88% of students studying Sport Management at Northumbria believed their course had the right balance of direct and independent study and that subject-specific resources were easy to access (NSS, 2023).

The BSc (Hons) Sport Management’s philosophy is that you will learn to become a sports manager in an authentic, dynamic, interactive and supportive environment, graduating as a fully industry-ready graduate who can think for yourself and make informed judgements.

The above means that, as well as actively engaging in lectures, seminars and workshops, you will undertake field trips, group projects and a 12-week sports industry placement.

Our assessments are based on the types of tasks that sports managers are required to perform, such as writing reports, making presentations, evaluating information and developing strategic plans. For example, in your final year, you will use all of your knowledge and skills to plan, implement, and evaluate a sports event of your choosing. Previous events have included: charity golf days, sports dinners, events to support public health initiatives, zorb football, the RFL North East season launch, the Sky Super-league Netball Launch, and an annual five-day swimming gala.

Tools such as the ‘Blackboard’ eLearning Portal and electronic reading lists are there to help you efficiently and thoroughly prepare for seminars and independent research. Lecture capture software means you can revise previously lectured material online in your time, as well as at your speed.

Outside of the classroom, we have a wide range of socialisation and study spaces for students to utilise from our award-winning Student Central and Library to your dedicated Students' Union.
