Programmer Objectives
The overall aims of the programmer are to:
• Produce graduates with an enthusiasm for mechanical engineering, a wide appreciation of its application in different contexts and to involve them in an intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying in depth.
• Produce graduates with the ability to apply their knowledge and understanding in order to be competitive and innovative to exploit opportunities.
• Produce graduates with the mechanical engineering knowledge and skills required to critically evaluate information, assumptions and concepts to make argued conclusions and informed judgement for solving real engineering problems and continuous improvement.
• Produce graduates with the professional qualities and skills for employ ability enabling them to either pursue programmers of high level research or to move directly into their chosen employment in industry and/or consulting/research organisation where they will become the problem solvers, innovators and leaders of the future.
Distinctive Features
This programmer is delivered using a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, student-led sessions and self-study; together with hands-on laboratory and practical sessions. There is extensive use of group project work and during the final years students undertake substantial research-based individual projects.
Two key themes run each year: professional skills and career development; and a group project to foster problem-based learning and to encourage both team working and interpersonal skills. The group projects will provide an opportunity for interested students to become involved in the Formula Student initiative.
Learning is supported throughout by the University’s virtual learning environment; and the Library and Information Services, which provide extensive access to physical, electronic and online resources.
Study Overseas
Upon successful completion and passing of year 1 and year 2, students will have an opportunity to study at Teesside University, UK campus for year 3 and year 4 of the programmer. Fees and details to be advised.
Programmer Duration
Full-time: 48 months

* Students are required to meet an average score of at least 55% before progressing to Year 3 of the Masters programmer. Those who fail to meet the minimum average score will have to complete their studies in Singapore.
** For students who do not wish to pursue their final 2 years of studies in UK, they are given the option to complete their studies in MDIS Singapore.

Entry Requirements
All applicants must be age 17 and above, and must obtain one of the following requirements:
For year 1 entry
- Applicant with MDIS International Foundation Diploma in Engineering with overall grade of at least C OR
- At least two GCE ‘A’ Levels including grade B in mathematics and an analytical science subject such as biology, chemistry, computer sciences, physics or technology OR
- 12 years of formal education (with math and physics background or another related science/technology/engineering subject)
- PEI qualifications that include Mathematics and an analytical science subject (60-65% overall pass grade/overall grade C), equivalent to pathway programmers, with 10 years of formal education OR
- International Foundation Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Art
For year 2 entry^
- Relevant polytechnic diplomas in engineering related fields with a credit (60-65%), equivalent to Year 1 OR
- Relevant overseas polytechnic diplomas in engineering related fields with a credit (60-65%), equivalent to Year 1, with 10 years of formal education OR
- Relevant PEI qualifications in engineering related fields with a credit (60-65%), equivalent to Year 1, with 12 years of formal education OR
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in fields of science/technology/engineering
^Direct entry into Year 2 will be processed at the discretion of the University
English Language Requirements
The applicant is required to achieve one of the following:
- C6 in English at GCE ‘O’ Level OR
- IELTS 5.5 for Year 1 entry OR
- IELTS 6.0 for Year 2 entry OR
- MDIS Professional Certificate in English (PCIE) OR
- Pass MDIS English Placement Test OR
- Equivalent
