Programmer Objectives

The MA Education Studies programmer will offer a course of study that is academically challenging and relevant to a wide range of educational contexts. The aim is to enhance students’ knowledge and conceptual understanding of a range of contemporary educational issues. A wide variety of teaching methods is used during the programmer; including lectures, seminars and tutorials. The degree programmer is assessed using a variety of methods; including essay, report, presentation, and dissertation.

The main educational aims of the programmer are:

• Provide a supportive learning environment appropriate to postgraduate study and research
• Offer a programmer that is academically challenging and relevant to a wide range of educational contexts
• Enhance the knowledge and conceptual understanding of a range of educational issues
• Share innovative and inspirational experiences that stimulate learning
• Present a critical framework within which students can develop their own responses to contemporary educational issues
• Contribute to the continuing professional development of students on each pathway – teachers and lecturers, leaders and managers

There are two pathways available in the programmer, one for ‘Teachers and Lecturers’ and one for ‘Leaders and Managers’. Each pathway consists of four taught modules and a dissertation.

Award

Students who successfully complete the programmer will be awarded the Master of Arts Education Studies from Bangor University, UK.

Full-time MA Education Studies: Total of 111 Face-to-Face Contact Hours

• Adult Learners – theory/Method (Fly-in) @ 30 Hours
• Research Methods (Fly-in faculty) @ 30 Hours
• Intercultural Education @ 12 Hours (by Local Tutor on top of Distance Learning)
• Dissertation @ 12 Hours (by Local Tutor on top of Distance Learning)
• Placement / Education Leadership @ 12 Hours (by Local Tutor on top of Distance Learning)
• Additional 15-hours intensive workshop on Academic Writing (with Harvard Referencing) and Critical Thinking Skills

Entry Requirements

All applicants must be age 21 and above, and must obtain one of the following requirements:

• A UK Bachelor Degree with at least a lower 2nd class honors classification OR
• An overseas degree-level qualification and grade which are equivalent to a UK honors degree with a 2nd class grade. A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience is required. OR
• Candidates without a degree or required grade may also be considered on the basis of possessing other qualifications and having at least 2 years of relevant work experience in Education

Applicants are required to meet one of the following requirements:

IELTS 6.0 (with no element below 5.5)    OR   TOEFL internet based test (IBT) 75 (Listening 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20, Writing 18)   OR  Pearson PTE 56 (no element lower than 51)    OR    Cambridge English Test Advanced - 169 (no element below 162)    OR   MDIS Professional Certificate in English (PCIE)    OR   Pass MDIS English Placement Test    OR    Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English    OR   Equivalent
