About Program

Master of Public Health (MPH) – Global Public Health

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU)

Why study Global Public Health?

Gain the knowledge and skills you need for a public health career worldwide. From epidemiological research to addiction and disease, policy-making to migration and mental health, this course covers the key concepts.

  • Across the globe, the increasing demand for healthcare alongside the reduction in funding for healthcare systems means there is an increased need for a trained, effective workforce of public health professionals.
  • Globally, the field of public health is ever-expanding, particularly in the context of increased migration, conflict, natural disasters, and infectious disease outbreaks.
  • Covid-19 and Ebola, health inequality, debate about conflict, vaccine hesitancy and the role of the state in health: public health is constantly in the news – and our MPH will equip you to meet these challenges.
  • You could be working in a public health-related role or in a medical-related field. In either case you’ll find a wealth of valuable content here, which will allow you to gain specialised skills to prepare you to make a valuable contribution to global public health.
  • At ARU, our postgraduate Global Public Health degree takes a modern approach, by directly addressing the social, economic, political and other factors that influence population health.
  • The taught aspects explore the field globally and are applicable to any country or health system. You’ll learn how to apply advanced theory and techniques to practical scenarios.
  • Your course will culminate in planning, researching and writing your Masters project. This can focus an area of particular interest to you and be research or work-based.

The course has been designed to address current global public health issues such as infectious disease control and mental health issues related to increasing migration patterns. We’ll prepare you to take on global public health challenges, through essential public health, epidemiology and statistics, ethics and globalisation, culminating in a major project led by you. By nature, the field of public health is complex and requires cooperation between diverse sectors and disciplines. This course has been designed to incorporate the interplay between health, social care, economy, environment and politics to encourage creative and applied learning. Throughout the course, you’ll develop your theoretical foundation and learn how to apply knowledge in real-world situations.

We have designed our assessments to ensure both theoretical knowledge and practical skills are assessed. Our assessments are authentic, inclusive and give real world experience. Assessments have been developed to include skills you'll need in your future public health careers such as policy briefs, persuasive arguments, intervention development and written evaluations, debates, outbreak management plans.
