The DCU MSc Management Business is accredited by the Institute of Management Consultants and Advisors (IMCA) and has been designed to meet their criteria. Students of the MSc Management Business are entitled to free Graduate membership of the Institute for the duration of their course of study and for 12 months following completion. After this period they are entitled to transfer to Associate membership for a further year at a preferential rate.

Semester 1 – Strategic Foundations

  1. Strategic Management
    Learn to assess industry structures, firm capabilities, and growth strategies. Frameworks like Porter’s Five Forces and the Balanced Scorecard are explored for competitive advantage.

  2. Global Business
    Covers globalization trends, international business entry modes, and cultural considerations. Students analyse real multinational strategies and evaluate global market opportunities.

  3. Marketing Strategy
    Focuses on customer-centric innovation, digital marketing tools, and long-term value creation through strategic segmentation, targeting, and positioning.

  4. Business Economics
    Provides economic reasoning for business choices, focusing on pricing strategies, resource allocation, and understanding external economic forces affecting markets.

  5. Next Generation Management – Part 1
    A cornerstone leadership module emphasizing sustainability, ethical reasoning, communication, and collaboration. Includes real-world projects and industry guest lectures.

  6. Quantitative Decision-Making
    Develops data literacy using statistical tools and decision models. Techniques include regression, hypothesis testing, and forecasting using Excel and analytics platforms.

Semester 2 – Execution and Innovation

  1. Innovation & Change Management
    Teaches how to lead change and foster innovation within established firms. Covers design thinking, agile methodologies, and transformation frameworks.

  2. Corporate Governance & Ethics
    Discusses governance systems, board roles, CSR practices, and ethical dilemmas faced by leaders in strategy execution and accountability.

  3. Strategy Implementation
    Addresses organizational design, performance metrics, and resource alignment necessary for executing strategic plans successfully.

  4. Consulting Skills for Strategy
    Prepares students for careers in consultancy with training in client engagement, data collection, diagnostic methods, and solution implementation. Includes real or simulated consultancy projects.

  5. Next Generation Management – Part 2
    Advances students’ global leadership competencies, digital innovation awareness, and personal branding. Industry leaders provide mentorship and immersive insights.

  6. Capstone Project (Summer Term)
    Choose between:

    • Live Strategy Consulting Project: Collaborate with a company to develop a real strategic initiative.

    • Academic Dissertation: Pursue research under expert supervision, ideal for those considering further academic or policy-based careers.
