International Foundation Studies (Business and Social Sciences pathway) - (2 Semesters) for BA (Hons) in Accounting at South East Technological University | Foundation Year + Degree

About Program

This programme will allow you to progress to an undergraduate degree in a range of Business and Social Science-related subjects. You will develop your English language skills and subject knowledge to ensure you are prepared to succeed in university study.

Course Overview

We’ve designed this course to provide the forward-facing skills required in today’s evolving accounting and finance sector. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of key areas in the field, including the role and scope of technology in the sector—such as FinTech and accounting software. You’ll also develop the ability to make sound investment decisions. Throughout the course, you’ll have the opportunity to put your learning into practice, helping you gain real-world skills to use in your future role.

This course is accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the world’s largest global professional accountancy body. This means your course content is fully aligned with the first two stages of the ACCA qualification to maximise your potential exemptions. When you graduate—provided you have passed the required modules—you’ll be eligible for up to nine exemptions from ACCA*. With these exemptions, it’s possible to become an ACCA-qualified accountant within two years of graduation.

You may be able to claim some exemptions from other professional bodies such as CIMA and ICAEW upon completion of this course. Please do reach out directly to these professional bodies to inquire about any possible exemptions

We have also partnered with Moody's to give you access to a wealth of financial data. Using this alongside advanced statistical software will give you the opportunity to make real-world financial decisions using live data, ensuring that you’re well-versed in modern finance before you even graduate.

*All exemptions from ACCA are conditional upon passing the relevant exams at Arden University. The professional body does not award exemptions based on a compensated pass for a module that is specified as a requirement for exemption from an ACCA exam.

Course details and modules

Accredited by ACCA, our BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance course will provide you with the technical knowledge and key skills needed to support good decision-making in real business situations. The specialist modules taught throughout this degree will enable you to graduate as a well-rounded, ethical accounting and finance professional, ready to take on any challenge in a dynamic environment.

How do we assess you?

You’ll be assessed in a variety of ways throughout your finance and accounting degree. As this course complies with ACCA requirements, a number of modules will also be assessed by exams which can provide you with exemptions from ACCA qualifications. However, we’ve limited these to a minimum to ensure you’ll gain real-life skills you can use in your future career.

Other methods of assessment may include:

  • Assignments
  • Board presentations
  • Consultancy projects
  • Management of individual equity portfolio (low risk + momentum shares)
