BSc (Hons) Mathematics
95% OF OUR MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS STUDENTS WERE SATISFIED WITH THEIR COURSE,NATIONAL STUDENT SURVEY 2019.
Mathematics is present in almost every aspect of our lives. Whether it’s making mobile phones secure, predicting the weather, optimising investments in financial markets or helping an endangered species survive, mathematics is key.
Our world is becoming increasingly data-driven, so the demand for mathematicians with expertise in handling and interpreting data continues to grow.
Accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the professional society for qualified and practising mathematicians, this maths degree provides a solid grounding in the methods of modern mathematics and will uncover the intrinsic beauty of mathematical ideas.
Our lecturers will provide you with a supportive environment during your studies allowing you to focus on fulfilling your potential. You’ll become an expert in logical thinking and develop refined problem-solving skills, which are highly valued by employers. This maths course will equip you with the skills to pursue a career in industry, government institutions, academia, or the teaching profession.
We also offer an MMath degree, where you study to Masters level as part of an undergraduate programme. This allows top-performing students to distinguish themselves with advanced skills.
Our Mathematics courses are ranked top in Wales by The Guardian university league tables and 3rd in the UK for teaching quality and student experience, Good University Guide 2020, The Times.
What you will study
The first year of your Maths degree will provide you with a firm and broad foundation in a range of mathematical areas by extending the material you encountered in core modules at A-level. As well as being introduced to specialist mathematical software, you’ll begin to apply mathematics to determine solutions to a range of real-world problems.
In subsequent years, you can specialise in areas of mathematics that best suit your interests and career aspirations. These include codes, cryptography, nonlinear systems, mathematical biology, financial mathematics, statistics, operational research, partial differential equations and financial modelling. In the second year of the Maths course, you are also able to take a teaching-based module that includes a school placement or you can study a project under the supervision of a lecturer. Recent projects have even been published in international mathematical journals.

Careers
Our Mathematics degree focuses strongly on employability and is structured to give you the best chance of securing your dream job.
Mathematicians and statisticians are in high demand. Most areas of modern life rely on mathematics, so the need for mathematicians, statisticians and mathematics teachers continues to grow. Many employers value the skills you’ll gain on a Mathematics degree, such as refined problem solving and logical thinking. Our graduates find employment in many branches of industry, commerce and public sector organisations. They are especially successful in areas that use mathematical modelling, coding and cryptography, software development, statistics, operational research, and teaching. Many also progress to further study or research at postgraduate level.

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
