Overview
In this four-year degree you'll analyse, design and build sophisticated business information systems and develop technical and business skills highly sought after by employers across many industries.
Studying information systems is suited to analytical and methodical people with strong attention to detail. It is a perfect fit for those who thrive on strategist and designing solutions to improve situations and problems. You are open to change, accepting of new ideas and enjoy learning new skills. You are highly motivated to push boundaries and use innovative applications to achieve tasks.
You will complete a combination of common core studies in business and major studies in information systems, and build on your classroom learning through a compulsory industry placement undertaken during the third year.
You will also have opportunities to collaborate with peers and industry through group projects, simulations, short and long-term placements in industry and global experience programs.
Career
Technology is integrating into business operations across all sectors at an exponential rate. Increased demand for ICT professionals has resulted in more than half of the workforce being employed outside the scope of ICT-related industries.
Graduates can be employed across many industries. Information Technology (IT) companies will choose graduates because of the combination of their IT skills and business acumen.
Diverse careers are available to graduates, including roles in:
- IT project management
- cyber security
- systems architecture
- infrastructure and network management
- business analysis.
Recent employers of graduates include KPMG, Accenture, AAPT, SAP, Telstra, GE Financial Services, Microsoft, IBM, Hewlett Packard, NAB, ANZ, BHP Petroleum and various federal and state government agencies.
This program targets high performing students and selection is based on high academic merit.
You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 75% (check calculator below).
Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognized post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee entry. Your application will still need to be assessed and accepted.
