Become commercially minded with an accounting and finance degree

If your ambition is to be a fully qualified accountant with a particularly strong understanding of the finance industry’s institutional structures and products, then this is the degree for you.

You’ll study a wide range of subjects including accounting, corporations law, tax law, derivatives, risk management techniques and credit assessment, and will learn how to manage risks in financial services firms and price a range of financial instruments, such as shares and debentures. You’ll graduate ready to work either as an accountant in the finance industry, or as a financial analyst, providing investment advice based on reviewing the financial statements of potential investees.

Study a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) at UC and you will:

Work Integrated Learning

The Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) sees academics and industry working together to develop a range of diverse Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities for students, including internships, work placements, industry projects, competitions, exhibitions, study tours, virtual real-world learning experiences and more.

Through the WIL experiences across the course, you’ll acquire the necessary professional skills consistent with industry expectations for your future career in the worlds of accounting, finance and commerce. Previous accounting and finance students have undertaken internships and cadetships with organisations including International IDEA, Legal Aid ACT, eChoice, Boyce Chartered Accountants, the US Embassy, Maxim Chartered Accountants, National Australia Bank and Chartered Accountants ANZ (CAANZ).

The course culminates in a capstone project, which aims to integrate what you’ve learned across your degree and prepare you for the transition to either successful future employment or further studies.
