ABOUT THE COURSE
You will have access to the latest equipment, software and facilities for acoustics measurement and modelling and work with an experienced teaching team with consultancy and research expertise in building acoustics.
This valuable qualification delivers the skills and accredited professional training you need to carry out and report upon sound insulation tests on walls and floors, in accordance with relevant standards and regulatory instruments.
While the design and detailed specification of sound insulation in walls and floors is beyond the scope of this course, you will gain a basic grounding in the principles and practice of achieving good sound insulation and develop sufficient familiarity with commonly-encountered forms of construction to recognise and report on any obvious defects affecting sound insulation performance.
Concentrating on measurements according to ISO 140 parts 4 and 7, the course is also relevant for a range of other situations including Building Regulation requirements.
YOUR FUTURE
The Institute of Acoustics (IoA) Certificate of Competence is a highly valuable qualification both for new staff in acoustics consulting and for anyone involved in building design/architecture, construction and site management, environmental health, planning and building control.
The course also gives you the appropriate skillset to undertake partition testing*, which is a core business of many acoustics consultancies. Holding this certificate will make you significantly more employable with firms undertaking building acoustics testing.
The certificate is also a core part of CPD for many other fields, in particular construction, environmental health and environmental consulting, and successful completion allows you to apply for technician-grade membership of the Institute of Acoustics.
This course provides appropriate skills required for work as an acoustics technician, acoustics consultant, building control officer, architectural technologist, environmental health officer or structural engineer.
INDUSTRY LINKS
We have excellent links with a number of companies across the sector, as well as with the Institute of Acoustics and the Association of Noise Consultants.
*Note: This qualification does not certify you to undertake projects requiring conformance with Part E of the Building regulations. A firm or individual needs to be accredited by an appropriate body in order to certify pre-completion testing to Part E. However, this qualification will give you the appropriate skillset to register as an approved tester for an accredited company.

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
