ABOUT THE COURSE
Are you working in engineering? Would you like to improve your career prospects? Solent University’s one day a week HNC Engineering programme will help you to develop the essential mathematics, electronics and mechanical engineering skills required to thrive in a range of engineering roles.
This course aims to provide students with the advanced knowledge required for progression in the engineering industry. Past students have been able to gain an insight into real-life engineering problems, working on projects that are relevant to their day-to-day work.
Specialist facilities include a production and electronics laboratory for designing, building and testing electronic circuitry; and a heat treatment laboratory containing furnaces that heat specimens and components up to 1100oC. The materials testing laboratory has large tensile testing machines and the manufacturing laboratory features a range of advanced equipment including a 3D printer, a rapid prototyping machine and a laser cutter.
The engineering academic group’s network of industry contacts have previously provided students with the opportunity to work on live briefs, helping them to develop analytical, problem solving, team working and business management skills. These elements can help students develop a range of transferable skills and ensure they are well prepared for a professional working environment.
FACILITIES
Students will have access to the workshops, robotics, CAD suites and dedicated laboratories. Software will be used extensively to simulate and analyse work; packages include MultiSim, SolidWorks, Autograph and Data Studio Suite.
Students pick from a range of optional units, tailoring the curriculum to their own unique career ambitions. The second year of study includes manufacturing and microcomputer applications as well as an individual work-based project.

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
