ABOUT THE COURSE
Ports are the economic drivers of a country’s economy and ships are the principal mode of delivery. As countries develop and their economies grow, reliance on ships and ports also grows. Emerging and established economies require graduates who have developed a solid knowledge and understanding of operating a port successfully and managing the ships that deliver to the ports.
Studying shipping and port management at Solent University will help you to capitalise on these opportunities and equip you with the balance of modern shipping knowledge and port management expertise sought after by employers in the industry.
Our maritime academic group is comprised of staff from a wide range of maritime and shipping backgrounds, ensuring that teaching combines academic theory with a wealth of commercial knowledge. The key aim of the shipping and port management degree is for students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare them for their future careers and give them the best opportunities to begin their chosen career path.
As a direct benefit of our accreditation from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), students will receive exemptions from the academic requirements for membership at either ‘chartered member’ or ‘membership level’ of CILT. In the same way, students will be entitled to exemptions from two of the ICS exams (Professional Qualifying Examinations) required to gain ICS membership (an internationally recognised mark of professionalism in the shipping industry).

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
