Are you passionate about performing arts? Looking for a route on to a full-time performance degree? The Performance Foundation Year will help you take your first step into higher education. You’ll be helped to broaden your knowledge, identify your hidden talents, and make an informed decision about your chosen pathway to one of our performance degree programmes.

The Performance Foundation Year enables you to undertake a programme of study, while fully integrating into a higher education environment. As well as practical elements, you’ll also develop the academic skills to enable to you progress on to a full undergraduate degree.

A career in the performing arts demands versatility. The broad-based nature of this foundation year offers you the opportunity to identify your skills, talents and areas of specialism, enabling you to choose the right pathway to realise your potential.

You’ll also gain broad practical experience and develop your skills in a range of performance areas. You’ll be Introduced to performance skills including acting techniques, screen acting, singing, dance, physical theatre, stage combat, mask, and clowning, helping you to identify preferential areas for further study.

You’ll be taught by an academic team with a variety of national and international industry backgrounds. They can provide well-informed, real world examples related to the subjects taught. You’ll be immersed in a balanced and stimulating programme of study that combines practical with theory. This means you’ll have plenty of opportunity to develop your academic and practical skills.

This course provides a direct pathway into either the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre or BA (Hons) Acting and Performance undergraduate degrees, depending on which area you wish to specialise in.
