ABOUT THE COURSE
Do you want to make television programmes - research, organise, produce, direct or work with cameras and sound? Our ScreenSkills accredited television production degree will help you become a creative practitioner, ready for a fun and rewarding career in TV.
Television production courses at Solent had the highest student satisfaction scores in 2019 (ranking against other television production courses using National Student Survey data on Unistats, Q27 ‘Overall satisfaction’).
With a strong focus on gaining hands-on experience and access to cutting-edge facilities, you will research, shoot and edit using the latest professional broadcast equipment. You will work in production teams to create drama, reality and entertainment shows, and have access to the latest 4K camera technology, over 70 editing suites, two outside broadcast vehicles and three high-end TV studios - the largest of which can seat an audience of 200 people and run up to ten cameras.
Build your skills with client briefs in the curriculum, and get work experience on mainstream broadcast programmes, summer music festivals and other high-profile events.
This courses also has masterclasses from the Royal Television Society and plenty of special guest speakers. There may be opportunities to apply for our placements at Woodcut, Topical TV and the BBC. INDUSTRY LINKS
Our course team are all from the television industry, experienced in drama, documentary, reality and entertainment, with credits including the BBC, ITV, BFI, and BAFTA.
We bring in a huge array of guest speakers from all corners of the industry. Recent speakers include producers John Lloyd (QI, Blackadder), Sabrina Sutherland (Twin Peaks), Kate Beal (Woodcut Media), Rob Butterfield (Ricochet TV), Nick O’Dwyer (Landmark Films) and Samantha Brewington (IMG Productions). Along with editors Mick Audsley (Murder on the Orient Express), Mark Sanger (Gravity), John Wilson (Billy Elliot), Glenn Gathard (Guardians of the Galaxy), Eddie Hamilton (Mission Impossible), Mags Arnold (Riviera) and Andy Morrison (The Musketeers).
Work experience is embedded in our curriculum, and you will work on live briefs with external clients. Our students have filmed at Glastonbury Festival, Bestival, Camp Bestival, Boardmasters, NASS, Teddy Rocks Festival, Viewpress TV, BBC South, EditFest and local TV production companies including Woodcut Media and Topical TV.

PLACEMENTS
Work experience is a key component of our course and embedded within the curriculum. Get involved with our in-house production company, Solent Productions, where you can find work experience on a wide range of projects including collaborations with the BBC, filming at summer festivals and events, and create bespoke projects for external clients.
