We start the course by looking at the history of education and some of the main issues at play today, such as equality and human rights. As this is an accelerated course you’ll be taught over three trimesters.

Alongside this, we focus on the National Curriculum, exploring subject areas such as reading, writing, science and technology, and maths. We’ll look at how these subjects are taught in primary schools and how, as a teacher, you can engage children with a range of abilities and needs.

In your second year, we continue to focus on core subjects such as English and maths, but also start to explore areas including Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE); design and technology; PE; music; and modern foreign languages.

We’ll also look at special educational needs and disability (SEND), inclusion and common developmental difficulties in younger children.

Meanwhile, the Specialist Focus Project gives you the chance to investigate a topic of particular interest to you.

Based in Cambridge, Chelmsford or Peterborough (two-year accelerated degree) our course will prepare you to join postgraduate Initial Teacher Training.

You needn’t be limited to primary school teaching, though. You might have your sights set on a career in the wider education sector, cultural institutions and NGOs, or related fields such as health and social work. On this degree course you’ll develop your understanding of primary education, and gain the knowledge and skills to work collaboratively in a range of settings.
