MASTER IN THERMAL ENGINEERING
As the energy and process sector in India is in a boom, engineers with a strong background in thermal and fluid sciences capable of carrying out conceptual design have a key role. The primary goal of the program is to provide sufficient theoretical, computational, and experimental knowledge in the field of thermal and fluid sciences. It also encapsulates simulation and experimental in the field of IC engines, power plants, aerospace, and gas turbines.
The program is designed to equip students to perform design related to steady-state/ transient heat transfer, steady and unsteady fluid flow, multi-phase flows, fluid-structure interactions viz., estimation of thermal and pressure loads, and coupled field analysis. The program provides required numerical simulation techniques for the design and analysis of equipment like gas turbines and accessories, steam turbines and reactor pipes, heat exchangers, compressors, turbines, pumps, propellers, rotor-stator interactions, flow separators, inlet manifolds, volutes, turbochargers, etc. The course also introduces the student to experimental techniques like flow visualization, combustion diagnostics, particle characterization, and other recent imaging techniques adopted in the field of thermal research.
Educational Objectives
- To train students with in-depth and advanced knowledge to become professionals in the areas of thermal sciences and related fields capable of identifying, analyzing, and solving complex problems.
- To enable graduates to carry out innovative and independent research work in academia/Industry/R & D center to develop thermal systems and processes and to disseminate the knowledge.
- Provide access to the latest computational fluid dynamics software packages such as ANSYS– Fluent, Star CCM, CFX, and ANSYS Workbench.
- Prepare Graduates with Good Analytical, Computational and Experimental Skills to Design and Develop Energy Efficient Systems for Sustainable Development
Scope of Employment
Thermal engineering has a wide scope of employment in India as well as abroad. Engineers are employed in the areas of research, development, design, and application. The opportunity of super-specialization and further studies (for example Ph.D.) is always open after completing the M.Tech/M.E degree. Thermal engineers can get job opportunities in both private and public sectors of various types and their work differs by industry and function. Defense, Railways, and Power Plants require thermal engineers to assist in the maintenance and design of their machinery. Jobs can be available in Thermal Power Plants, Mechanical Analysis Engineer, Automation Engineer, Mechanical Designer, etc.
Program Outcomes
After completion of post-graduation, you will be able to
- To solve problems in the field of thermal sciences by using advanced techniques.
