MASTER IN TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING
Transportation Engineering is a special branch of Civil Engineering that focuses on the various modes of Transportation that include roadways, bridges, railways, marine ways, and airways. It is involved with the analysis and design of the transportation routes for men and material movements. The scope is not limited to only the design of the Transportation routes but it also includes the design of the signaling, traffic management as well as pavement materials for Transportations. It is also concerned with developing the new materials for the construction of bituminous, concrete roads as well as railway sleepers and runway design. The students pursuing this course study about ideas and various research methods to smooth, safe and fast means of by any mode of Transportation. The tunnels, bridges metro, BRTS, Monorail with environmental concern, etc. are the part and partial of these engineering. Further, it also includes the repair and rehabilitation of distressed roads, railways, and bridges. With the increase in infrastructure demand all over the world including India, professionals with Transportation Engineering are in high demand in Core companies, MNC consultancy firms, Government sectors, Road construction, Railways, and Bridge construction as well as in academics and R & D sectors.
Educational Objectives
The course in Structural Engineering is designed to fulfill the following objectives:
- To provide excellent engineering knowledge related to pavement design
- To make aware the students about the state-of-art knowledge of traffic engineering and its applications
- To equip the students with good technological skills pertaining to analyses and design Transportation routes, urban transportation, road/rail safety audits, signals, etc. through software
- To produce international level competitive engineers who can solve the challenges of global problems
- To build confidence and inculcate creativity and sensitivity towards environmental impact among engineers.
- To impart humanity and honesty values and ethics to the students.
Scope of Employment
Everybody uses one or other modes of Transportation for their survival. With development, man needs to provide one or another mode of transportation in plains, hilly regions, deserts, and marine areas there are great challenges involved in designing these routes. The student with a Master’s degree in Transportation engineering has the following scope of employment as….
- Transportation engineer
- Site engineer
- Material testing engineer: certify and test the engineering materials
- Bridge Engineer: to monitor and control the activities pertaining to analyses, design, and construction of bridges
- Railway safety engineer: monitor and control the seepage through earthen dams
- Highway/Railway/airfield engineer: Monitor and control the quality of the sub-grade construction for the purpose of road/rail/runway of the airplane.
- Transportation Consultant: solving field problems related to geotechnical engineering
- Foundation engineer
- Project engineer
- Expert for Urban transportation: design the BRTS or Metro or other mass transportation
- Engineering Education: Lecturer/Asst. professor
- Expert in Disaster management: Geospatial applications
- R & D sector: CRRI, RDSO, DRDO, ISRO, and other manufacturing companies related to Geotechnical engineering products
Student Learning Outcomes
After completing the PG Structural Engineering from Marwadi University, the students would be able to:
- Understand the fundamental theories of analyzing given members of plain or continuum structures
- Able to decide appropriate loading on Transportation and design the same.
- Able to design the Transportation for dynamic forces like wind, earthquake, or blast loading
- Analyze and design complex Transportations like high-rise buildings, cable-stayed bridges, silos, bunkers, and membrane Transportations with the infusion of technology.
- An environment-sensitive person.
The two-year-long program trains the students to become perfect in this discipline. The students will be given the opportunity to engage themselves in the research and consultancy division of the Marwadi University.
