Work Integrated Learning (WIL)

WIL allows students to work alongside, with, or for professional or government organisations allowing you to gain valuable hands-on experience and build professional relationships before they graduate. This approach ensures that UC students are aware of what is going on their specialist industries, possess a wide range of professional contacts, and as a result have a higher chance of employment upon graduation.

As part of this course, each student will have the opportunity to participate in multiple 2-week placements that take place over the winter semesters at metropolitan, rural or regional community and hospital pharmacies. Some students choose to do these placements overseas.

Students will also get to participate in half day or full day work placements throughout each of the teaching semesters.

Career opportunities

As the aging population continues to grow globally, the demand for qualified and skilled pharmacists who can also engage with patients across all demographics is expected to increase. UC Master of Pharmacy graduate will enter this market with the benefit of having been trained in a smaller, more personal, learning environment resulting in each student receiving a higher level of mentored education.

What this means is that UC Master of Pharmacy graduates are industry respected and will be more than adequately prepared for a variety of career options in either private or government pharmaceutical organisations.

Alternatively, graduates will also have the option to gain further qualifications by returning to university at a later date to continue their studies.

Course specific information

As part of the degree, students will be required to undertake clinical placements and will need to be able to prove that they are fully vaccinated and able to pass standard police checks to comply with government health and security regulations.

This is an Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) accredited course.

To become a registered pharmacist, graduates are required to complete an internship year of supervised practice and pass Australian Pharmacy Board examinations.
