Course duration
An accelerated study plan is recommended over three semesters and winter term full-time or part-time equivalent. Based on a standard full time study plan, standard 1.5 years full time or part time equivalent. Maximum 6 years.
Learning outcomes
- Learning outcomes for the Graduate Certificate in Public Health: - Students will have a critical understanding of research methods in public health from an ecological perspective; and - Students will have an understanding of ecological public health and its application to real world problems.
- Learning outcomes for the Graduate Diploma in Public Health, in addition to the above: - Students will have a critical understanding of public health methods and their application; - Students will have an understanding of public health practice in the global setting; and - Students will be able to critically analyse public health problems and develop solutions using an ecological perspective.
- Learning outcomes for the Master of Public Health in addition to the above: Graduates of the Master Degree of Public Health will be able to: - demonstrate specialised knowledge and skills in the practice of ecological public health; - demonstrate advanced understanding of the complex body of knowledge associated with contemporary and emerging local and global public health concerns; - demonstrate specialised skills to critically analyse, synthesise, and interpret public health information; -demonstrate an advanced body of knowledge that includes the understanding of recent developments and skills of research principles and methods applicable to ecological public health; - demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills in interdisciplinary approaches to public health concerns with a broad range of partners; - cognitive skills to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on theory and professional practice or scholarship; - investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice; - the application of knowledge and skills with high level personal autonomy and accountability; and - to plan and execute a substantial research based project, capstone experience and/or piece of scholarship.
Alternative exits
Alternative exit award Graduate Certificate in Public Health: Students may exit early from the Master course if they have passed 12 credit points from the following units: 6486 Research Planning PG 9594 Epidemiology and Principles of Research PG 10054 Ecological Public Health PG 10058 Health Promotion Principles and Practice PG 10063 Principles and Practice of Interdisciplinary Public Health PG Alternative exit award Graduate Diploma in Public Health: Students may exit early from the Master course if they have passed 24 credit points as follows: a.
