The qualification will open up a career in virtually any business or organisation in the private, public or voluntary sectors.
It will also enable you to gain employment in the financial services industry because it provides a thorough overview of financial markets, financial reporting requirements and the regulatory framework of accounting. You’ll receive a solid grounding in core accounting disciplines and the course has a strong emphasis on preparing you directly for the world of work.
Gain full exemptions from professional exams and receive training to complete the final professional level papers with the integrated master's version of this course – MAccFin (Hons) Accounting and Finance.
Top place
Our Accounting courses are ranked at the 1st place for London according to Guardian for 2018. We offer a state-of-the-art campus at University Square Stratford, complete with one of the largest Bloomberg training suites in the country. You'll have access to live financial data and the same world-class equipment that finance professionals use.
Overall satisfaction
The overall satisfaction is rated at 92% in NSS (National Student Survey) for 2018. This reflects the fact that we continue to invest in our facilities, deliver up-to-date and professionally accredited courses, and offer superb teaching year on year.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
From day one, you’ll develop the theoretical and practical skills needed to succeed as an accountant or finance professional. An interest in news and current affairs will be an asset as you’ll examine and debate current financial issues in light of what you learn.
A major part of the course involves developing relevant practical skills to prepare you for employment. For example, you’ll learn how to:
â–ª Manipulate, analyse and interpret financial and non-financial data.
â–ª Prepare financial reports.
â–ª Apply accounting principles and techniques to a range of business problems.
â–ª Use industry-standard software.
You’ll also learn how to appraise evidence, present and communicate clearly, work in a team and conduct independent research when required, such as when preparing a final-year project on a topic of your choice.
HOW YOU'LL LEARN
Accounting and finance are practical, career-focused subjects. As far as possible, learning methods will reflect the tasks you’ll be expected to carry out when you start work.
- Field trips to companies and financial institutions to see how professional accountants and finance professionals operate.
- Teamwork, to share ideas and insights and produce work together.
- Guest speakers representing a cross-section of finance, accounting and business expertise.
- Practical tasks. For example, you can learn how to trade in stocks and shares with our Bloomberg trading platform. This will develop investment management skills that will look impressive on your CV.
- Lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops.
You’ll also be expected to undertake a great deal of independent study outside of formal teaching time, supported by our specialist business library and a selection of digital materials, financial databases, handbooks, notes and other resources.
If you take a placement year in industry, you’ll ‘learn by doing’ and enhance your practical skills. But even if you don’t choose this option, we’ll support you to find work experience or an internship during the course, which can earn you credits towards your final degree.
“Our Accounting and Finance course is one of only a few in London which is accredited by six accountancy bodies,” says Dr Shampa Roy-Mukherjee, our Head of Accounting.

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
