Business with Fashion BA (Hons)

Course overview

This broad-based degree gives you a comprehensive understanding of business concepts and models with specialist knowledge of fashion design management, fashion cultures and the fashion industry.

Develop knowledge and a range of skills to get ahead in the fashion industry with a focus on marketing communication, branding, lifestyle trends, styling, photography, graphics and creative uses of new digital platforms.

You are prepared for a career in a wide range of roles from general business to more more-fashion related roles including image-makers, stylists, art directors, fashion show producers, public relations experts, bloggers, influencers and social networkers, online marketers, journalists, curators, commentators and theorists, who are all shaping the future of fashion.

You study at both Teesside University Business School and MIMA School of Art & Design, an art school led by Teesside University and Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA), giving you a complete business and creative learning experience. An optional work placement year is included, at no extra cost.

Due to the diverse nature of the degree our students are able to demonstrate progression within their current employment in a range of businesses and sectors and also secure roles from general business manager to fashion buyer, international business representative to social entrepreneur, and retail manager to new business adviser.

All programmes are designed to incorporate employability skills development alongside your degree course. Our staff use their extensive business connections to provide many and varied opportunities to engage with potential employers through fairs, guest lecture sessions, live projects and site visits.

We offer a series of workshops and events in the first, second and third years to ensure you are equipped with both degree level subject knowledge plus the practical skills that employers are looking for in new graduate recruits. We also offer extensive support for you to find and secure industry year placements which have been shown to make have significant positive impact on a student’s career prospects on graduation.

Our award-winning careers service works with regional and national employers to advertise graduate positions, in addition to providing post-graduation support for all Teesside University alumni.
