This course is subject to validation.
The course is industry-inspired and forward-facing to meet industry needs. You will benefit from a mixture of theoretical input and practice to ensure the relevance of your studies to employability. This means you’ll develop solid business principles, alongside contemporary sector knowledge, and plenty of hands-on experience working in areas related to your field of study.
We will encourage you to take a strategic approach to various sectors of the industries. This will enhance your understanding of the ever-changing business, economic and social demands placed on these complex industries.
Employer engagement will be embedded throughout the course both in the delivery of the curriculum and participative activities including trips, workshops, guest speaker sessions and work experience. This will enhance your understanding of contemporary issues in the industry. Our reputation and East London base have helped us to develop valuable links to national and multinational organisations. These connections can provide opportunities for you to gain work experience and build your professional network.
HOW YOU'LL LEARN
You'll be taught by a range of staff, many of whom have relevant experience within the events and hospitality industries.
Guided independent study
When not attending timetabled sessions, you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. This will typically involve reading journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects, and preparing coursework assignments and presentations. Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities including online resources, the library and Moodle.
Academic support
Our academic support team provides help in a range of areas - including learning and disability support.
Dedicated personal tutor/academic advisor
When you arrive, we'll introduce you to your personal academic advisor. This is the member of staff who will provide academic guidance, be a support throughout your time at UEL and who will show you how to make the best use of all the help and resources that we offer.
Workload
Each year you will spend around 300 hours of timetabled learning and teaching activities. These may be lectures, workshops, seminars and individual and group tutorials. Contact hours may vary depending on each module.
Your timetable
Your individualised timetable is normally available to students within 48 hours of enrolment. Whilst we make every effort to ensure timetables are as student-friendly as possible, scheduled teaching can take place on any day of the week between 9.00am and 6.00pm. For undergraduate students Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities, but there may be occasions when this is not possible. Timetables for part-time students will depend on the modules selected.
Class sizes
To give you an indication of class sizes, this course normally attracts 25 students a year. In the classroom you will be taught in small groups of students. However, this can vary by academic year.
YOUR FUTURE CAREER
The increasingly professionalised and globalised nature of hospitality, events and tourism industries mean that employers are looking for management/leadership graduates with an academically informed understanding of these sectors as well as the critical and analytical skills needed to reflect upon and solve a range of management-related problems. Through a combination of academic rigour with practical engagement with innovative industry partners and applied research, this programme will equip you with the knowledge, strategic vision and competences to take a leading role in your chosen workplace.
UEL is connected to a number of trade and professional associations whose membership comprises employers and operatives from across the hospitality sector.

My name is Kavisha Prince Anthony, and I always had a dream of studying abroad. Thankfully, that dream came to life since I applied to the Study Advisor. I was able to receive my visa within four days. I also had some visa refusals in the past; I had about six UK visa refusals in the past, but thankfully, it was not an issue since the Study Advisor was able to make things work this time. I highly recommend Study Advisor for your dreams of going abroad, whether it be the UK or any other European country there is.
