Yorkville University’s programs always involve direct interaction between faculty and students in a collaborative learning environment. The university does not offer self-directed learning courses.

TIMELINE

Yorkville University was established in 2003 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The University is private and non-denominational, delivering practitioner-oriented degree programs that bridge the gap between theory and practice, leading to rewarding professional careers.

In March 2004, the Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour granted designation status, approving Yorkville University as a degree granting institution authorized to offer the Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology (MACP). In October 2011, the University was granted the authority to offer a Master of Education in Adult Education (M.Ed). and in 2012, the authority to offer a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program.  In 2015, the university received consent to offer a Master of Education in Educational Leadership which it recently launched.

RCC Institute of Technology became an Ontario division of Yorkville University in 2007, and in 2009, RCCIT acquired the Academy of Design and the Toronto Film School. Today, RCCIT delivers professional degree and diploma programs in business, technology and design, largely delivered on-campus but with some online offerings.

In 2015, Yorkville University was granted authority in British Columbia to offer a Bachelor of Business Administration, with specializations in Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Project Management and Energy Management.

Professional Designations for Master of Education in Adult Education

The Institute for Performance and Learning

The Institute for Performance and Learning recognizes Yorkville University’s MEd in Adult Education. This recognition provides participants of this Master’s degree student membership. Graduates are given the credit of one-year work experience towards the qualification requirement for the following certification: Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP).

This certification provides you with a professional recognition as a learning leader, manager or instructional designer, enhancing your competency in the field of workforce training and development.

Professional Designation for Master of Education in Educational Leadership

By virtue of the interprovincial and territorial Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), an accredited degree specifically accepted for the certification process in one province is to be accepted in all provinces and territories. Yorkville University is designated by the Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training, and Labour under the New Brunswick Degree Granting Act to offer its Master of Education in Educational Leadership. The Teacher Certification branch of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Education has approved the Master of Education in Educational Leadership for use towards a higher Teacher Certification, as well as for Principal’s Certification. Note that students planning to apply for Principal’s Certification in New Brunswick must have included in their program successful completion of both EDEL6213 – Assessment and Evaluation in Education and EDEL6223 – Supervision of instruction.  In other jurisdictions, it remains the responsibility of students to contact their regional boards of education to determine if similar additional requirements unique to a region exist.

Professional Designations for Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology

The following professional designations and opportunities are available for graduates of Yorkville University’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program:

College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)

The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, recognizes the MACP program offered by Yorkville University. To qualify for registration with the College, individuals applying for membership must have completed a program of education and training in psychotherapy that has allowed them to develop the required entry-to-practice competencies. Yorkville’s MACP degree was one of the first four recognized programs listed on the CRPO website.

Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA)

MACP graduates are eligible to apply for Professional Membership and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation with CCPA.

BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)

MACP graduates are eligible to apply for membership and Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) status through the BCACC.

Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT)

The MACP degree meets the academic requirements set out by the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT), and graduates of the program are eligible to apply for NSCCT membership.

Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP)

MACP graduates are eligible to apply for membership with OACCPP.

Canadian College of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (CCPCP)

MACP graduates are eligible to apply for membership.

Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA)

MACP graduates are eligible to apply for membership.

New Brunswick Teachers Certification

Certified teachers are eligible to increase their certification level from 4-5 or 5-6 upon completion of the MACP. This program also meets the required criteria for guidance counselors in New Brunswick.

British Columbia Teacher Qualification Service (TQS)

The MACP program is approved by TQS for increased teacher certification.

College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals (CVRP)

MACP graduates with relevant work experience are eligible to apply for various certifications after completing an exam.

Yorkville University’s Bachelor of Business Administration in Project Management has been developed and structured to align with the requirements established by:

Project Management Institute (PMI)

Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world’s leading project management organization. Applicants with PMI certifications are highly sought-after by employers and stakeholders, and respected by colleagues.

Yorkville University’s alignment with PMI’s requirements provides students with a pathway to obtaining both a BBA degree and the following PMI certifications:

Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)

Project Management Professional (PMP)

Benefits for students:

• CAPM Eligibility: Students can meet the 23-hour project management education requirement by completing one BBA in Project Management course, and can write the CAPM certification exam before graduating.
• PMP Eligibility: Students can meet the 35-hour project management education requirement by completing two BBA in Project Management courses, and will further need 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects, instead of 7,500 hours, to be able to write the PMP certification exam.
• PMI examinations are based on the content in the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), which is extensively covered by the courses in the Project Management specialization.

 Students who have CAPM or PMP certification will automatically get credit towards BUSI 3603: Introduction to Project Management. These students will also get credits towards courses completed from recognized colleges and universities, which will be handled on a per-case basis. Students’ work experience will be assessed for credits using Prior Learning Assessment Review (PLAR).

 Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA)

Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) is the national organization established to support a unified accounting profession in Canada. CPAs are highly attractive to employers for their expertise in contributing to improved efficiency and growth.

Prospective CPA students may complete a number of prerequisite equivalency courses through the Yorkville University BBA often at an accelerated pace.

The Canadian Payroll Association (CPA)

The Canadian Payroll Association has been representing employers’ payroll interests since 1978, through its mission of payroll compliance through education and advocacy and its values of community, professionalism and authoritative knowledge.

The Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) has approved credit transfer of certain BBA courses towards its professional certifications:

Bachelor of Interior Design

The institution has been granted a consent by the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer the BBA for a 7-year term starting 04/06/2017 and the BID for a 5-year term starting 04/06/2017. Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g., acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies or other educational institutions.)

Canada is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres, making it the world's second-largest country by total area.

Despite Canada’s great size, it is one of the world’s most sparsely populated countries. This fact, coupled with the grandeur of the landscape, has been central to the sense of Canadian national identity, as expressed by the Dublin-born writer Anna Brownell Jameson, who explored central Ontario in 1837 and remarked exultantly on “the seemingly interminable line of trees before you; the boundless wilderness around you; the mysterious depths amid the multitudinous foliage, where foot of man hath never penetrated…the solitude in which we proceeded mile after mile, no human being, no human dwelling within sight.” Although Canadians are comparatively few in number, however, they have crafted what many observers consider to be a model multicultural society, welcoming immigrant populations from every other continent. In addition, Canada harbours and exports a wealth of natural resources and intellectual capital equaled by few other countries.

Canada is officially bilingual in English and French, reflecting the country’s history as ground once contested by two of Europe’s great powers. The word Canada is derived from the Huron-Iroquois kanata, meaning a village or settlement. In the 16th century, French explorer Jacques Cartier used the name Canada to refer to the area around the settlement that is now Quebec city. Later, Canada was used as a synonym for New France, which, from 1534 to 1763, included all the French possessions along the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes. After the British conquest of New France, the name Quebec was sometimes used instead of Canada. The name Canada was fully restored after 1791, when Britain divided old Quebec into the provinces of Upper and Lower Canada (renamed in 1841 Canada West and Canada East, respectively, and collectively called Canada). In 1867 the British North America Act created a confederation from three colonies (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Canada) called the Dominion of Canada. The act also divided the old colony of Canada into the separate provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Dominion status allowed Canada a large measure of self-rule, but matters pertaining to international diplomacy and military alliances were reserved to the British crown. Canada became entirely self-governing within the British Empire in 1931, though full legislative independence was not achieved until 1982, when Canada obtained the right to amend its own constitution.

Canada shares a 5,525-mile- (8,890-km-) long border with the United States (including Alaska)—the longest border in the world not patrolled by military forces—and the overwhelming majority of its population lives within 185 miles (300 km) of the international boundary. Although Canada shares many similarities with its southern neighbour—and, indeed, its popular culture and that of the United States are in many regards indistinguishable—the differences between the two countries, both temperamental and material, are profound. “The central fact of Canadian history,” observed the 20th-century literary critic Northrop Frye, is “the rejection of the American Revolution.” Contemporary Canadians are inclined to favour orderly central government and a sense of community over individualism; in international affairs, they are more likely to serve the role of peacemaker instead of warrior, and, whether at home or abroad, they are likely to have a pluralistic way of viewing the world. More than that, Canadians live in a society that in most legal and official matters resembles Britain—at least in the English-speaking portion of the country. Quebec, in particular, exhibits French adaptations: more than three-fourths of its population speaks French as their primary language. The French character in Quebec is also reflected in differences in religion, architecture, and schooling. Elsewhere in Canada, French influence is less apparent, confined largely to the dual use of French and English for place names, product labels, and road signs. The French and British influences are supplemented by the cultures of the country’s native Indian peoples (in Canada often collectively called the First Nations) and the Inuit peoples, the former being far greater in number and the latter enjoying semiautonomous status in Canada’s newest territory, Nunavut. (The Inuit prefer that term rather than Eskimo, and it is commonly used in Canada.) In addition, the growing number of immigrants from other European countries, Southeast Asia, and Latin America has made Canada even more broadly multicultural.
